Asset Identification Keys

Prev Top Next More

In VertiGIS FM Maintenance, assets are distinguished by unique identifiers called asset identification keys. Each asset's key is unique and reflects its group, subgroup (if applicable), and type. Individual devices, component objects, vehicles, and vehicle components themselves are identified by a serial number (a decimal number at the end of the key).

Groups, subgroups, and types all have asset identification keys. You can see asset identification keys in the Asset Identification Key column in the Groups, Names, or Types tables, or in the core properties section on the details page for the group, subgroup, or type. Asset identification keys for individual assets always appear alongside their assets, or as a data point to sort and filter assets of the same type.

The logic outlined in this article applies to asset identification keys for nodes in both the Device and Systems Structure and Component Structure, as well as for other asset hierarchies in VertiGIS FM, like the Vehicle Structure, Inventory Management Structure, and Playground Management Structure.

Groups

A group is identified by a string of letters or numbers you can see in the Asset Identification Key column in the Groups table.

Subgroups

A subgroup is identified by a key comprising two separate strings in the Asset Identification Key column in the Names section on group details pages.

The asset identification keys for a subgroup contains the key for its group as well as its own unique identifier after a decimal. This means that all subgroups in the same group have the same prefix in their identification keys.

Type

A type that is directly below a group in a two-level hierarchy has an asset identification key similar to the ones shown above in the Subgroups section.

If the type is below a subgroup in a three-level hierarchy, it has a third string after its group and subgroup identifiers. This means that all types in the same subgroup share two strings for the shared group and subgroup but have a unique string for its type after the second decimal.

Devices and Objects

In the Device and Systems Structure, the level below the type is the device. It refers to individual instances of the device or system described in the type. In the Component Structure, the level below the type is the component.

The asset identification key for individual objects is the same string as for their type, but with a decimal and serial number after the type identifier to serialize the asset and to distinguish it from other assets in the same type.
